It's true. No one likes it and no one really wants to talk about it but it is something that does or will happen to nearly 40% of us. (Source) There are so many different variations that can strike anywhere, at any age, and with no discrimination. Cancer is a horrible, no good, very bad beast and striking it down is the ultimate goal.
Out of all the awful variations, Breast Cancer has most affected our family and since October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, it is the perfect time to share my mother's journey. Right from the very beginning, when she was first diagnosed, my mother (also known as Grandma Susie to our community) wanted to document and share the entire process (which is ongoing). She thought maybe, just maybe, it could help or support not only those diagnosed but their family and friends as well.
We're happy to report that we are in the "keeping an eye on it" stage. It is hard to believe how much has happened from the very first day when she took me aside to show me the lump and I demanded she schedule a doctor's appointment immediately.... but here we are. She made it this far. We made it this far.

Nowadays, Grandma Susie walks. And walks. And walks more. She walks not just for her health (she looks amazing, by the way!) but to raise awareness and funds to help beat not just Breast Cancer, but other cancers as well. We recently attended a super fun (and cheeky!) charity event, Bowling for Boobies, to help the cause. This was just one of many, many events Grandma Susie works on to help.
